One of most symbolic Greek archeological site, included since 1998 in UNESCO's world heritage list.

On a rocky ridge that marks in the south the tableland on which rose up classical built-up area, still appear ruins of doric temples of uncertain assignment: from east to west, Hera (Juno), Lacinia, Concordia, Eracle (Hercules), Zeus (Jupiter), Olimpico, Castore e Polluce (Dioscuri) and Hephaistos (Vulcanology).

Down, the San Gregorio's plain is crossed by Akragas river, on which mouth there was the harbor ed emporion of the old city.

Near the river, there is a temple consecrated to medicine's God, Asclepio.

The ancient Akragas, in V century BC, was a flourishing cultural center: homeland of pre-socratic philosopher Empedocles, it was frequented by Pindaro and Simonide.
